Did you know these foods are good for your dental health?

Many of my patients ask about new ways to improve the health of their teeth and gums. The best way to maintain the health of your mouth is through proper dental hygiene, including brushing and flossing twice per day and routine dental visits. However, the next time you grab a snack, maybe try one of these foods over sugary foods.

Carrots
Carrots make for a quick and easy snack. Carrots help stimulate saliva which naturally helps to clean away plaque. They also contain Vitamin A, which is beneficial to your eyesight. This vegetable is an excellent snack for you and your children.

Celery
Celery is probably a good choice for the picky eaters out there. Celery is almost tasteless and is low in calories. Like carrots, celery helps to increase saliva through chewing, but celery is also made up of fibrous strands that help to clean your teeth.

Pineapples
These sweet fruits are loaded with vitamins and minerals. Pineapples contain bromelain which is a protein-breaking enzyme that can help to keep teeth clean.

It is important to remember that eating these foods does not take the place of brushing and flossing, but if you are looking for more ways to care for your teeth, what you consume can help maintain a healthy smile.
